Saying that it would have hurt used car buyers by increasing their
vehicle taxes, Gov. Frank Keating Wednesday vetoed the $22.3 million
Democratic car tag bill.
The veto will most likely mean that the measure will go to a vote
of the people.
"This was a difficult decision, but I believe the people of
Oklahoma deserve car tag relief that doesn't help a segment of the
population at the expense of raising taxes on those who are least
able to afford it," said the governor.
House Bill 2663 did reduce car tag fees to a range of $15 to $85
depending upon the age of an auto, and Keating said that would have
