Article: Fixing a broken school system

Last week at a meeting, I heard Dr. Bill Weitzel, the newly appointed CEO for the Oklahoma City Public School system, outline his plans for the future for the troubled school district.

Weitzel is operating under a short-term contract, I believe 90 days, while the district officials either find someone else, get an extension from the state board of education or convince him to sit for the superintendent's certification test.

In any case, Weitzel will have a big influence on the direction the district takes in the next year or so.

His approach is very refreshing and confrontational.

I just hope he is willing to go as far and as fast as he can.
