Cherokee and Wilburton have been named as Oklahoma's 2001 Main
Street Towns.
The Oklahoma Main Street program is a revitalization program that
provides resources to selected communities to improve central and
neighborhood business district areas, said Russell Perry, state
secretary of economic development and special affairs.
Perry said the approach creates opportunities for a business
district by concentrating on existing assets.
As the Oklahoma Main Street Program begins its 16th year of
success, it has generated over $270 million in public and private
investment, created more than 6,800 new jobs and helped in the
development of approximately 2,200 new or expanded small businesses,
he said.
