Article: Zito agrees to 7-year deal with Giants

SAN FRANCISCO -- On the day Barry Zito reached a preliminary agreement to move across the bay and pitch for the San Francisco Giants, he lost his cell phone.

He can certainly afford a new one.

Zito, 28, will fly from his Los Angeles home to San Francisco on Friday, take a physical, and get introduced as the Giants most prized free-agent signing since Barry Bonds in 1992.

The Giants outbid Texas, Seattle and the Mets with a seven-year, $126 million contract. The deal includes an $18 million option for the 2014 season, and a full no-trade clause.

"Wow," said A's second baseman Mark Ellis, who was Zito's teammate since 2002. "That's incredible. That's awesome for him."
