Q: When do three zeros add up to $2 million?
A: When they're left off a Jackson developer's property tax bill.
That's what happened last year when the assessor for the Village
of Jackson assessed a vacant 21-acre parcel belonging to Cranberry
Creek Associates for $2,100 instead of $2.1 million.
The developer paid the $44.38 tax due on the property, where
dozens of condominiums worth millions of dollars have since been
built.
Now the village wants to be paid the full amount and earlier this
month submitted a property tax bill to Cranberry Creek for the
"omitted" amount, totaling $44,330.
Too bad, the developer's lawyer says.
