It is a rare treat to see West African dance performed with the
authenticity and excellence displayed Saturday by KanKouran West
African Dance Company at Dance Place. KanKouran's high-octane
performance of "Visit Casamance" -- choreographed by Artistic
Director Assane Konte, a native of Senegal -- transported the
audience to that country's Casamance region, depicting the
cultivation and harvest of crops and celebrating a bountiful
agricultural season.
First, male dancers entered the stage wielding large tools used
