Although freeway and rural road fatal and injury crashes in the
Tri-Valley went down in 2006, overall crashes on those roadways
stayed the same, according to a report by the Dublin office of the
California Highway Patrol.
While those statistics might indicate drivers are simply getting
lucky when they crash their cars, Officer Steve Creel said the
reason the number of crashes did not drop as well is because of the
continuing population boom in the area.
"You now have bordering on
225,000 vehicles on (Interstate) 580 during the peak months and
180,000-some on (Interstate) 680 in the Tri Valley," Creel said. "In
