Mark Teixeira and the Rangers won't make the playoffs, but at
least they can take solace in setting the record for most home runs
hit in a season at home.
Rod Barajas's drive in the fourth inning yesterday gave Texas 150
homers at Ameriquest Field this season, breaking the mark of 149 set
by the 1996 Rockies at Coors Field. Teixeira homered twice to help
the Rangers finish a four-game sweep of the Mariners.
Teixeira has 41 homers, joining Juan Gonzalez, Rafael Palmeiro and
Alex Rodriguez as the only Rangers with at least 40 homers in a
season.
"Those are three great players," said Teixeira, who had four RBI
to increase his total to 132, tied for the AL lead with David Ortiz
of the Red Sox. ...
