Roughly 95,000 Americans are waiting for life-saving organ
transplants. But to save those lives, you must have organs to
transplant, notes the acting U.S. surgeon general.
Rear Adm. Dr. Kenneth P. Moritsugu was in Salt Lake City on
Tuesday as a guest of Intermountain Donor Services to talk to Utah
and Idaho hospital executives and others about the importance of
making organ donation a priority. He also congratulated them, since
this region has one of the highest organ-donor rates in the country.
Primary Children's Medical Center, for instance, has organ
procurement rates close to 90 percent.
