Article: Food fight; Palermo's Pizza maker sues Trader Joe's over name

The Trader Joe's grocery chain has prospered by selling gourmet and specialty food items, made just for Trader Joe's, at prices well below similar items found in conventional supermarkets.

But the Milwaukee-based maker of Palermo's Pizza says Trader Joe's Pizza Palermo is too close for comfort. Trader Joe's pizza amounts to trademark infringement, unfair competition and false advertising, according to a lawsuit.

Palermo Villa Inc., the family-owned company that makes Palermo's Pizza, this week sued Trader Joe's in federal court in Milwaukee. The complaint claims that Trader Joe's Pizza Palermo frozen pizzas are trading unfairly on the Palermo's Pizza frozen pizza brand.
