When Doug Melvin, the Milwaukee Brewers' general manager, calls
Mark Attanasio in his Los Angeles office, he can hear paper
shuffling on the other end of the conversation.
"He's a note taker, and he grasps things quickly," Melvin said.
"He has a good feel for the industry."
Tom Werner, one of the owners of the Boston Red Sox who lives in
the same Los Angeles neighborhood as Attanasio, has been to games
with the Brewers' principal owner and consults with him often. "I've
noticed that he sweats every pitch," Werner said. "I've seen him at
games with a stomachache."
The businessman and the baseball man as one is in vogue in
