There is a predictable flow to mini media crises these days.

Take last week's Don Imus incident, with the morning talker - whose show airs here on MSNBC - ripping members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team with a racially insensitive slur Thursday morning.

By Friday morning, there was this on-air statement from Imus, which sound like it had been drafted by committee:

"Want to take a moment to apologize for an insensitive and ill- conceived remark we made the other morning. It was completely inappropriate, and we can understand why people were offended. Our characterization was thoughtless and stupid, and we are sorry."
