It has never been stated explicitly, but there is a distinct sense
around the Baltimore Orioles' clubhouse that Ray Miller is managing
for his job. It is there in the uneasy air, in Miller's weary
expression, even in the way his players stop by his office to express
their confidence in him.
Today's 7-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in front of 30,739 at
SkyDome -- the Orioles' fifth loss in six games -- didn't help
Miller's cause, although it illustrated again the unenviable task he
faces.
At this stage, with an American League-worst 3-8 record, it seems
impossible to stop the Orioles' train of losses. One loss bleeds
