Article: Jay's Foods rolls with punch from losing Panera; Restaurant chain totaled 10% of chip maker's business

Jay's Foods Inc. probably will adapt to the loss of Panera Bread's restaurant business without significant job cuts, management of the Chicago snack maker said Tuesday.

Jay's had provided its Krunchers! kettle chips to Panera before the restaurant chain's recent decision to market its own brand of kettle-style chips, which it offers as a side choice with each sandwich or salad purchase. Denver-based Condor Snack Co. now has the Panera chips business. Panera operates 1,027 bakery-cafes in 38 states.

The Panera contract accounted for about 50 percent of Jay's small- bag business, which is less than 10 percent of all Jay's sales. So, the impact on jobs won't be deep, said Kris Malkoski, ...
