Yahoo Inc.'s deal to buy the leading Internet broadcaster for $6
billion moves the global computer medium another step closer to
domination by a few giant "programming networks," industry analysts
said yesterday.
At its core, the Internet remains decentralized, with more than
400 million pages of electronic "content" linked all over the globe.
But at warp speed, a handful of huge companies is being assembled to
run the complex technology and high-speed data conduits to deliver
that content to people in organized, enjoyable form.
If approved by regulators and shareholders, the $5.7 billion
purchase of Broadcast.com Inc. that Yahoo announced yesterday will
catapult Yahoo into a solid second ...
