Article: Pleasanton searches for its next poet laureate

PLEASANTON -- As Cynthia Bryants year as poet laureate comes to an end, the city has begun the search for its fifth official city poet.

Ive loved every minute of it. The time just flew by, Bryant said. Just when you start to get the hang of it, the time ends.

Pleasantons poet laureate program, established eight years ago, has nurtured partnerships with local teachers to instruct students about writing poetry. And, in cooperation with the Pleasanton Cultural Arts Council, the program created the Poetry, Prose & Arts Festival, which recently presented its sixth daylong event, featuring Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Michael Chabon.
