The Colorado Avalanche walked off the ice and into the Stanley Cup
Finals.
There were two periods left at McNichols Arena, but this team was
going to Buffalo's Marine Midland Arena, where the Avs would teach
the Sabres something about scoring. They would sweep a finals series
in cleaner fashion than even the Dallas Stars. They would win it all.
That's what they told themselves, anyway.
Peter Forsberg would get the Conn Smythe Trophy, Bob Hartley the
champagne shower, Patrick Roy the sainthood. They would all chug
victory from Lord Stanley's goblet until the dream and the reality
became the same.
