Article: Judicial district will gain five judges in next four years

As El Paso County's population has grown, state district judges have struggled to keep up with an increased caseload.

But that's about to change.

Thanks to a House bill signed into law in March, a nominating committee is seeking applications for two district judge appointments in the 4th Judicial District, which covers El Paso and Teller counties.

Gov. Bill Owens in May or June will appoint one judge to fill a new position and another judge to replace Judge David Parrish, who will retire June 30.

House Bill 1075 will create 24 state district judgeships in the next four years and will add five judges in the 4th Judicial District, bringing the total to 19.
