If ever there was a perfect food combination when we were kids,
it was this: peanut butter, grape jelly and white bread - that kind
of soft, pillowy substance that my little brother always rolled into
a disgusting ball before he popped it in his mouth.
The bread was important, but the peanut butter was the glue that
held the sandwich together. And for generations, it has continued to
hold together countless childhoods.
"I wouldn't have survived growing up without peanut butter," my
husband says. "My mother didn't cook much for us, so we made
ourselves PB&J every single day."
He still wedges in a peanut-butter and grape-jelly sandwich every
day. His choice of bread has changed to crusty ...
