The Civil War is over in Caon City's Greenwood Cemetery, where
the bodies of Union and Confederate soldiers rest side by side.
Inspired by that simple reconciliation, Colorado descendants of
men who fought on both sides are tending those graves in Greenwood
together to keep alive the history of the nation's bloodiest and most
divisive war.
"I figured if our grandfathers didn't have a problem with the
other side after the war and they are the ones who fought, we
shouldn't either," said Doyle Brewer, a Denver firefighter who
belongs to the Colorado chapter of the Sons of Union Veterans and is
an honorary member of the local Sons of Confederate Veterans.
