Article: New high-tech topographical trail maps - they're digitally tops

Topographical maps have become the standard for many people who hike, bike or otherwise play on public lands in Colorado.

A local mapping company has taken the topo map a step further, using a digital orthophoto backdrop.

Sanborn Colorado LCC, formerly the Colorado Springs office of Analytical Surveys Inc., has just released Cheyenne Canyon Trails System, a map that outlines trails in the popular city park and details pathways for mountain bikers.

Matt Simmons was coordinator of the project, which is similar to a map of Palmer Park's bike trails done by Sanborn last fall.

"People really like the Palmer Park map, so we decided to continue with this new project," Simmons says.
