If you think of theater of the 1950s, you might think of Tennessee
Williams at his peak with "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Sweet Bird of
Youth" or Eugene O'Neill scoring a hit with "Long Day's Journey Into
Night."
Yet in searching for a play to represent the era in the theater's
Millennium Project, which features plays from each decade of this
century, Studio Theatre artistic director Joy Zinoman bypassed the
classics in favor of "The Desk Set," an upbeat Broadway play that
inspired the film vehicle for Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.
The production combines elements from the stage script and movie
screenplay.
