Not all the people who played important roles in the Pikes Peak
region's early years are as well known as Gen. William Jackson Palmer
and Spencer Penrose. Here are the stories of some other distinguished
community leaders.
Gen. Robert A. Cameron
Cameron was experienced at town building before he came to
Colorado Springs. Hired by Nathan Meeker to help found Greeley, he
laid out the colony in 1870. So Gen. William Jackson Palmer turned to
him in 1871.
