Article: Jazz piano phenomenon returns

Topeka jazz fans have been watching 20-year-old Eldar Djangirov perform for almost half of his life.

Djangirov was only 11 when the late Jim Monroe booked the piano- playing wunderkind for the Topeka Jazz Festival, at which he became a regular.

The festival has since folded, but Djangirov is still going strong.

He will perform for the Topeka Jazz Workshop Inc. Concert Series on Sunday, just 22 days before the release of his next major record- label CD, "re-imagination" (Sony BMG Masterworks).

A CD release party is scheduled for Joe's Pub in New York City, where Djangirov now lives, and on June 8, he will perform at Carnegie Hall as part of a tribute ...
