PORTUGUESE police today bowed to intense international criticism
and finally issued a formal appeal for information about the
disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
The official website of the local force today carried details of
the abduction, alongside a photograph of the three-year-old,
together with a telephone number for the public to call.
The move came six days after the toddler, from Rothley in
Leicestershire, disappeared from the Mark Warner complex at the
Praia da Luz resort and follows strong criticism of the apparently
piecemeal manner of the Portuguese investigation.
A British police source said today it was "totally unthinkable"
that in similar circumstances in the UK detectives ...
