It's field trip day for the fifth-graders at James McHenry
Elementary School in Lanham, and Terence Tambe is nervous. The 11-
year-old is known to his classmates as the "Human Dictionary" for his
broad vocabulary, but even he is having trouble finding the right
words for his feelings about this trip.
"It's all right," he says as he boards the bus. "By all right, I
mean good. Or pretty good. It's cool."
If Terence is a bit uncertain, it's because this is not the usual
field trip to a museum or amusement park. The James McHenry students
are traveling to another school, and not just any school--one of the
country's best: Mayo Elementary in Anne Arundel County, a national
Blue Ribbon school. ...
