Brad Johnson comes from a part of the country where conversations
are sprinkled with "yes, ma'am" and "no, sir," where college
basketball has a status close to religion and, until recent years
where the Washington Redskins were the only NFL team fans could
follow on TV.
If Black Mountain, N.C., is a throwback to another era, so too is
the route Johnson took to become the Redskins' starting quarterback.
