Milwaukee County earns B- in national evaluation

Pension dispute hurts ranking, but array of services praised

Milwaukee County has earned a B- overall in a nationwide study of large county governments, but its recent pension woes prevented it from ranking higher.

Its grade for financial management slipped from B- to C+, after researchers learned about the pension scandal only a day or two before the report was printed, said Katherine Barrett, special project editor at Governing magazine and one of the report's authors.
