Fed up with paying big bucks to post job openings on Web sites such as Monster.com and Hotjobs.com, a consortium of companies -- including Unisys, IBM, Cisco and Intel -- launched its own Internet recruiting site, www.directemployers.com.

Current job sites work like newspaper classified advertisement listings. The Internet companies charge employers to list jobs on the sites. Job seekers click on to those sites, and scroll through the listings. They contact the company directly or funnel their resumes through the Web site. They also file their resumes with the sites for employers to see.
