'Substantial progress' made in halting the funneling of funds, Senate panel told

Washington -- Since Sept. 11, U.S. and foreign authorities have seized more than $80 million in assets of al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations, top administration officials told a Senate panel Tuesday.

Deputy Treasury Secretary Kenneth W. Dam told the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee that the United States, with the help of dozens of other countries, had made "substantial progress" in cutting off money to terrorist groups.
