Contrasting air masses can trigger big spring storms

A few days ago, John Malan and I were taking part in a promotion at Discovery World for our upcoming Weather Day on Saturday, March 23. John had just written in his column about a "baroclinic zone," and while at the museum complex he was asked about it. Since so much of our spring weather is influenced by this phenomenon, I thought I would try to explain it in today's column.
