It's time for NHL to control violence

Thuggery is an old story in the NHL. But a number of particularly ugly hits in the first round of the playoffs have caught the attention of even the most casual hockey fans -- and no wonder. Things aren't what they once were in hockey. The sport has evolved dramatically but remains stuck in a time when the game was played by smaller men on rinks that no longer are big enough to accommodate, and showcase, the players' size and skills -- and a time when mayhem could be more easily overlooked.

Because the NHL has failed to make changes, the worst in hockey now ...
