Dog attacks chase away insurance companies

Some firms cancel, refuse to insure dog owners

Recent reports of dog attacks and a state law that provides double damages for some dog-related injuries have increasingly caused nervous insurance companies around the state to cancel or refuse to write liability policies for dog owners.

"We get two or three letters a month from people whose homeowner's insurance has either not been renewed or been flat-out canceled because they have dogs," said Pam Thomas, president of the Dog Federation of Wisconsin.
