Park East Freeway ramps closing

Drivers still can use downtown spur in first phase of demolition project

Some ramps and lanes will start closing today on the Park East Freeway, as part of final preparations for the long-awaited demolition of the downtown freeway spur to start June 18, a city spokesman said Tuesday.

Drivers still will be able to use the spur during the first phase of demolition, which will last through the end of the year.

City, county, state and federal authorities have agreed to raze the Park East, from N. 6th St. to N. Jefferson St., and expand local streets in its place to free 26 acres for development ...
