Staffers with immunity give state legal bills of $75,000

Taxpayers pick up tab but aren't privy to unedited copies of bills

Madison -- Legislative staffers who have been granted court- ordered immunity from prosecution in return for their testimony in the ongoing Capitol caucus scandal have submitted legal bills totaling more than $75,000, records show.

Taxpayers have picked up the tab for more than $500,000 in lawyers' bills for current and former legislative personnel who have been caught up in a secret investigation into accusations of illegal campaigning on state time and political shakedowns for campaign cash.
