Board votes to keep police department

Issue is expected to come up again during budget talks this fall

Town of Burlington -- The Town Board supports retaining the town police department for the foreseeable future but has vowed to discuss ways to improve the operation.

At a meeting Wednesday, the board voted 4-1 to keep the police department. Town Chairman Gerald Kaul cast the only no vote.

The future of the department has been in question since a study released last month recommended the town dissolve its department and instead use law enforcement services provided by the Racine County Sheriff's Department.
