Sewerage district looks to purchase 7,000 acres

Owners of undeveloped land meeting tonight on flood prevention plan

Germantown -- Owners of almost 7,000 acres of undeveloped land in Germantown and Mequon have been invited to attend a meeting tonight to hear the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District's proposal to acquire their land for flood prevention.

The sewerage district plans to spend $15 million in five years to acquire farmland from willing sellers in Milwaukee's suburbs and then build prairies that can absorb vast quantities of moisture, according to Margaret Kohring of The Conservation Fund, a non-profit ...
