Gravel pit operators seek approval for expansion

Site in Town of Lisbon would grow by 100 acres if approved by county

Town of Lisbon -- The operators of a gravel pit producing tons of building material are seeking county approval to expand by more than 100 acres, extending the operation toward the banks of the Bark River.

Genesee Aggregate Corp., which already mines about 175 acres for sand and gravel, hopes to extend the life of the operation by expanding onto an adjacent farm.

Company officials say the gravel pit generates 15,000 tons or more weekly.
