Color laser printers crack $1,000 mark

Color laser printers are finally becoming affordable for individual consumers, with Minolta-QMS offering the new Magicolor 2300 DL at the precedent-shattering price of $799.

Hewlett-Packard, the longtime market-share heavyweight in laser printers, is also sliding under the $1,000 barrier with the new HP Color LaserJet 2500L at $999.

Color laser printers aren't for everyone, especially given that high-quality inkjet printers now cost well under $200. But for some users -- especially those who want to do a lot of color printing on plain paper -- color lasers have compelling advantages.
