La Crosse police ask FBI for help in 2001 slaying

La Crosse -- Police have called upon the Federal Bureau of Investigation to do a criminal profile report to help solve a 2-year- old slaying.

Rick Dean Larson, 36, of Mabel, Minn., was shot multiple times and left in the back of his pickup near the La Crosse Municipal Airport on French Island. Two anglers found his body the morning of Jan. 12, 2001.

A preliminary FBI report on behavioral aspects of the crime suggests an unplanned and disorganized slaying.
