Golden Eagles soar to new heights

It certainly didn't come easily, but for the first time in nine seasons the Marquette University Golden Eagles have earned themselves a piece of a league championship.

They did so by posting a 98-87 victory over the Alabama- Birmingham Blazers on Saturday night at the Bradley Center, clinching at least a share of Conference USA's regular-season crown in front of a spirited crowd of 18,315.

Marquette (22-4, 13-2), ranked 10th in the Associated Press' writers poll and 11th in the coaches' poll, would have won the title outright had Memphis (20-5, 11-3) cooperated, but the Tigers ...
