Don Stanley was a farm boy from Stoughton who became a broadcast pioneer.

In January 1940, Stanley became the first radio announcer west of the Alleghenies to broadcast exclusively on FM radio. He was hired as an announcer on the old WTMJ-FM radio station after working in radio in Madison.

Stanley, of Westlake Village, Calif., died Jan. 20 of complications from colon cancer. He was 85. Funeral services were Jan. 26 in California.
