Prevent calories from sneaking in

They slip in when you're not paying attention and can undermine
your healthy habits. They are hidden calories, and they turn
seemingly healthy foods into high-calorie fare with little notice.
Take those hearty, jumbo loaves of bread that seem to radiate good
nutrition. But a slice of whole-wheat can swell to 2 ounces and 150
calories, compared with 1 ounce and about 75 calories for standard
whole-wheat.
Slice that bread yourself and the numbers can jump higher.
Leslie Bonci, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetics
Association, recommends using a kitchen scale and knife to measure 1-
