FAI Inc. notifies state it may close its Racine plant by July

Racine -- In another blow to the area's manufacturing employment base, a 90-year-old, family-owned foundry services company notified the state last week that it may shut down its plant here by July 1, likely costing 90 jobs.

FAI Inc. and its divisions -- Ditool, Incon and Wisconsin Pattern - - said in its notice that "severe pricing pressures" had hurt its business. The plant is at 1301 18th St.

The closing would deepen unemployment in Racine County's troubled manufacturing sector, where the number of jobs has dropped by more than 16% since ...
