UW-Madison ponders trimming 150 jobs

Tuition increases possible amid state budget crisis

Madison -- Tuition bills seemed to be the only things safe from the chopping block Monday as University of Wisconsin-Madison officials considered eliminating entire departments, as many as 300 courses and 150 administrative and faculty jobs to bail the campus out of a budget crisis.

"It's going to affect the quality of education," said Peter Spear, UW-Madison provost. "It's going to impact our ability to carry out research."
