GOP panel targets family planning project

Rules committee blasts use of birth-control funding for minors

Madison -- A state-run family planning project came under fire Wednesday by a Republican-controlled legislative panel, a move that Democrats ripped as an assault on birth control.

The Legislature's Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules voted 6-4 to suspend emergency rules for the Family Planning Demonstration Project, which uses federal money to provide birth control, cancer screening and other services to women.
