Carbon dioxide not a problem

This is in reply to the article on carbon dioxide, and in particular to Melissa Carey, a climate policy specialist for Environmental Defense, who was quoted in the article ("Carbon dioxide isn't air pollutant, EPA says," Aug. 29).

According to the dictionary, carbon dioxide is a colorless, odorless, naturally occurring, heavier-than-air gas. Furthermore, according to "Pocket Ref" by Thomas J. Glover, it comprises a whopping 0.033 of 1% of the air around us. Oxygen comprises 20.947% of the air around us, or 635 times the amount that CO2 does.

Being colorless -- transparent -- means that sunlight passes through carbon ...
