Reds put Larkin on the disabled list

The Cincinnati Reds placed shortstop Barry Larkin on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a sprained left ring finger.

Larkin, on the DL for the third time this season, injured his finger Friday night against the Houston Astros when he struck out in the third inning. Larkin returned to Cincinnati for further examinations.

Larkin, batting .282 with two homers and 18 RBI, had just returned to the lineup Wednesday after missing six games when he aggravated scar tissue left over from hernia surgery.

The Reds purchased the contract of infielder Jim Chamblee from Class AAA Louisville to replace Larkin. ...
