Daniel Lyons thinks that public television should be privatized ("On public TV, it's always begging season," Sept. 29). He supported this claim by writing that PBS uses taxpayer money to benefit only "wealthy elites" and declared that PBS' children's programming is inferior to similar fare on cable.

Where did he get the idea that PBS caters mainly to the rich? Maybe it was the show "P.O.V."; its recent subjects have included AIDS victims, immigrant families and the trials of the homeless. Or perhaps he saw a preview for the series "The Blues," because everyone knows that only "wealthy elites" listen to the blues.
