Pay to play grows

Real

Networks is claiming the lead in the online music rush, with 250,000 paying subscribers.

Seattle-based Real said its Rhapsody and RealOne RadioPass music offerings have reached the quarter-million mark combined.

Radio

Pass is a $50-a-year online radio service. Subscribers to Rhapsody pay $10 a month to listen to an unlimited number of songs or 79 cents to buy a single track. Rival online music subscription services include: Time Warner's MusicNet with about 150,000 paid subscribers and Musicmatch's MX with about 160,000.
